3m Aluminium Soffit | Long-Lasting Roof Protection

The Aluminium Soffit Type 2 by Metal Profiles Ltd is a strong yet contemporary solution that prevents the underside of roof overhangs from possible damages. This 2mm aluminium soffit will last, perfect for use on both residential & commercial jobs. Exterior- grade polyester powder paint over this washes away corrosion and provides maximum weather resistance for exterior applications.

Unlike our Aluminium Soffit Type 1, our Type 2 system comes with vented slots, giving a nice sleek design for your roof.

Quick and easy to install, this 3m aluminium soffit gives a modern, unblemished appearance. Manufactured in a large choice of RAL/BS colours and rated A2-s1, d0 under the most stringent Fire Class Rating. The stylish design of this soffit gives strength and protection for new constructions and upgrades alike.

Benefits & Features

Why Choose Aluminium Soffit Type 2?

  • 2mm aluminium construction – provides a robust soffit section for external eaves and roof overhangs.
  • Vented Type 2 profile – incorporates ventilation slots for roof details where a vented soffit has been specified.
  • 3 metre lengths – useful for reducing the number of joints required across longer roofline runs.
  • 150mm to 800mm widths – provides a broad choice for different soffit depths.
  • One union included per 3m length – helps connect adjoining soffit sections.
  • Wide RAL and BS colour choice – makes it easier to coordinate the soffit with fascia, guttering and other aluminium details.
  • External-grade powder-coated finish – available for a consistent external finish suited to UK roofline applications.
  • Corrosion-resistant aluminium – a practical choice for components exposed to external conditions.
  • A2-s1,d0 fire classification – stated on the current product specification; project-specific requirements should still be checked against the relevant supporting documentation.
  • 100% recyclable aluminium – aluminium can be recovered and recycled at the end of its service life.

Designed as a Complete Soffit System

Choosing a soffit is about more than selecting a colour.

The width needs to suit the roof overhang. Corners and joints need to be planned. The fixing substrate also needs to be known before the correct accessories are selected.

Metal Profiles supplies Type 2 as a complete system with 3m soffit lengths, 90° corners, internal joiners, colour-coded fasteners, sealant and finishing products. Planning these components together can make ordering clearer and reduce the risk of discovering missing parts during installation.

For developers and contractors, this is particularly useful when preparing quantities for several elevations or properties. For homeowners, it provides a clearer route to choosing components that are intended to work together.

Installation Notes

What to Check Before Ordering and Installation

Start by measuring the soffit opening and total run length. Then identify corners, joints and end details before calculating quantities.

Choose the soffit width from the standard 150mm to 800mm range and allow for the matching accessories required by the layout. Each 3m length includes one union.

If the soffit changes direction through 90 degrees, use the matching Type 2 90° Corner. Additional connections can be planned using the Aluminium Soffit Internal Joiner.

The fixing substrate should also be confirmed before ordering. The Type 2 range includes separate colour-coded fasteners for timber and metal applications. Selecting the fixing for the actual substrate is more important than choosing it on appearance alone.

Because Type 2 is vented, check that the selected soffit arrangement agrees with the intended eaves and roof ventilation design. Do not assume that the presence of ventilation slots alone satisfies a particular project’s ventilation requirement.

On refurbishment work, inspect the existing roofline carefully. Old soffit boards can conceal uneven substrates, previous repairs or variations in the actual opening.

If standard dimensions do not suit the building, Metal Profiles states that bespoke soffit solutions are available. For unusual dimensions or more complex roofline details, use the Request an Estimate service before ordering.

Size

Standard Type 2 Soffit Sizes

The 2mm Aluminium Soffit Type 2 is supplied in 3 metre lengths. Standard widths range from 150mm to 800mm, and the current product specification states that one union is included with each length.

Thickness Length Soffit Width Union Included Weight
2mm 3m 150mm 1 2.70kg
2mm 3m 200mm 1 3.58kg
2mm 3m 250mm 1 4.45kg
2mm 3m 300mm 1 5.33kg
2mm 3m 350mm 1 6.20kg
2mm 3m 400mm 1 7.08kg
2mm 3m 450mm 1 7.95kg
2mm 3m 500mm 1 8.83kg
2mm 3m 550mm 1 9.70kg
2mm 3m 600mm 1 10.58kg
2mm 3m 650mm 1 11.45kg
2mm 3m 700mm 1 12.33kg
2mm 3m 750mm 1 13.20kg
2mm 3m 800mm 1 14.08kg

These weights match the values currently published by Metal Profiles Ltd.

How to Choose the Right Width

Measure the actual area the soffit needs to cover rather than selecting a width simply because it matches an existing board.

For a new build, check the approved eaves or roof section. For refurbishment work, check the existing opening and supporting construction carefully.

Also consider the complete run before ordering. A straight 3m section may be simple, but corners, changes in direction and longer elevations can require additional components.

If the standard 150mm to 800mm widths do not suit the project, discuss the required dimensions with Metal Profiles before ordering.
